Academic Tutoring

Many of today’s AP, pre-AP, and on-level English classes move at a brisk pace. Teachers don’t always have time to linger on concepts or discussions, and that can leave students uncertain about course content. I provide extra background, focused explanations, and personalized practice to ensure your student thrives and grows.

SAT/ACT Test Prep

I begin preparing students for the ACT and SAT** by focusing on general guidelines for reading comprehension and grammar. As we move forward together, I focus on problem areas, providing instruction and applicable exercises that I have purposefully selected.

I believe that students should learn the skills needed to work the test questions successfully. Therefore, I do not teach tricks like “when in doubt, choose C.

Instead I help students read carefully and effectively. I explain grammar that may seem murky. And the knowledge and abilities that my students accumulate carry over into their schoolwork and future.

I use past exams and materials I have selected for instruction, and I gauge progress by self-administered practice tests along the way.

**Excluding math and science.

Admissions Essay Coaching

Filling out college applications is a daunting task. The admissions essay can seem like a form of torture. How can a student be memorable, intelligent, funny, and personable–all while avoiding the humble brag AND getting all the commas right?

There is another way, and I can guide you through it. Your student will avoid the common pitfalls of the application essay and write compellingly without needless stress and wasted time.

Why CJDWhite Tutor?
